 M:LYS (MIELYSSIA's) MUSIC BIOGRAPHY:

Musical Artist
Mielyssia Lee
Mielyssia  aka Melise (Miel-lys-sia  born January 19, 1980) commonly stylized as Melissia Lee is an American Singer, Songwriter, and Recording Producer for M:LYS and Xetra Dax Syntax Records. Born in Virginia, Mielyssia  moved to New York City  at an early age and became influenced by the various cultures and diverse musical styles around her.  She became deeply influenced by the Gothic Industrial Underground Scene at the age of 19. The first gothic artist she brought an album from was "Siouxsie and the Banshees" album "Superstition".  Mielyssia fell in love with that album because she could relate to every topic and theme from that album. "Siouxsie is always will be my vocalist influence and heroine! I love her always and I am not afraid to say that. She has probably influenced every single gothic female artist out there!" People started calling her the "Siouxsie Girl" in the 90's but soon after, she stopped dressing so wild. She needed to create her own identity. Mielyssia proudly says her female influences are only a few but the ones she loves, she loves strongly. "Ask me about Stacey Q one day!" She laughs. I go out of my way to meet my favorite artists. (She met Siouxsie twice). "She taught me how to sing because I would sing her songs everyday for vocal training and love of it." This is how Mielyssia learned how to sing. "I am a huge vocalist impersonator!" She says.

EARLY YEARS

Mielyssia (Melise) lived an eclectic life in New York City and began singing for Talent Shows and Local Clubs around 14th Street under the vocalist name "Meliska". Mielyssia was almost signed to huge record labels twice in her life (so far). "I was approached by a producer for Arista Records and years later by a singer for DEFJAM Records. Both times she was offered to work with established artists. However for reasons she feels sad about she had to decline their offers. "Once I was in the Navy on Leave just visiting NY for two weeks, and the other time I chose to go to a seminar in upstate NY because I worked as a Peer Counselor for a Youth group. I regret both times of not being able to attend their studios" she says "Its a big regret but life goes on....you know?" Her singing is often marked by the supernatural sound she produces in some of her songs. She has an unusual vocal range that sounds very haunting and otherworldly at times. This became her signature vocals style. "I often write about the supernatural and I have been writing songs like this since I was 16. I think I was haunted often" she says and laughs.

OBSTACLES IN MUSIC:
She sang as a backup vocalist in a few Death metal and Male Oriented bands but did not like the lack of control she had in music writing. She left the band life and went out to venture on her own. She joined the "New York Folk Music" Chorus and was highly encouraged to sing Solo because she could sing Alto and Soprano. Soon she performed a few local shows on the Lower East Side and tried out a few of her own songs she had written. Suddenly she was acclaimed as a "Singer and Songwriter" however she needed a band to produce the music. One night she overheard a friend talking about "Computer Software Music as being the wave of the future" and she decided to go Solo and get software music instead. "It took years to learn how to mix right but I think the musical freedom and creativity that I can express now is well worth it!" She says.

LIFE PATH CHANGED
The attack of 911 changed her life path for a while. "I was watching the television and saw how the reporters were acting and they were asking for nurses, doctors, police, health care workers, and all military personnel to come forward and help out the city. I felt helpless because at the time I was just a cocktail waitress at a nightclub (Infamous Club Webster Hall). So I decided to join the US Navy." She traveled to Japan and started her life as an Aviation Fueler (ABF) on an Aircraft Carrier and gave up music for a while. Soon her need for creativity in life led her to Music Software Programs while she was serving in the military. She served 4 and a half years on a USS Carrier (she doesn't want to say to the general public the name yet). It was there she got her first apartment in Japan and got her first music software programs."I got my first programs....FL Studio, Cake Walk and Reason". She invested in the Micro Korg, Korg Analog and a Yamaha. "Those are my favorite keyboards for creating software music" she states. After that she launched songs that would go on her first Album such as "Affliction, "I Declare Industria", "Despise You","Love Cell" and "Lust Coil". All of those songs were created in 2008.(Affliction 2008). Soon after she wrote "Love Washed" "Machinate", "and other songs in 2009-2010. "I love synthesizers and their sound". She jumped into the dark electronica scene and she has never left it since. (Genres: Goth, Dark Electro, Techno).

MIELYSSIA TO M:LYS:

"I was wondering about what I should call myself as a music name. I went to sleep and the next morning as soon as I opened my eyes I saw the name flash "Mielyssia." I wondered what it meant and found out it meant "Honey." My name means honey...so it was a perfect name! Mielyssia has  nicknames "Miela" or "Mie Mie ".She noticed that most people cannot spell her name. Recently she goes by the name "Melise" (Featured in EDM Bands and Vocals). Mielyssia created well over 35 songs. You can find them all over the internet now. BMI registered practically all of them now! "I am very happy that BMI represents my music" she says. I love feeling like someone is listening to my songs. It took a while but she feels more established because of it. "You can find my songs if you type in Mielyssia, Meilyssia, and M:LYS" she says. The message she often tells musicians is not to give up. "I often write as if I am already well known and pretend I am famous in my mind". She says "this keeps me going because one day I will be 80 years old and when I am dying... people will suddenly notice my songs!" she laughs. "but I will die knowing they are already out there on the internet and my goal of music was finally accomplished."

AWARDS: TOP TEN AND TOP 40 ELECTRONIC SONG COMPETITIONS

Her first debut "I Declare Industria"  was listened to on Ourstage.com. She won the Top Ten in the Industrial Competition in 2008 for this song. Then she won Top Ten in the Electronic Music Competition for "Lust Coil"(2010).  Then she won  2 Top 40's in the Electronic Music Competition for "Lust Coil"(2010) again and for the song "Real Dream"(2014).

TOPICS OF SONGS
Her albums are usually controversial because she often writes about Love and Loss, War, New World Order, Love and Hate, Revenge, Betrayal, and sometimes the Supernatural. But she announces they are "challenging subjects that help her release her pent up emotions about her past or certain situations." She states " I don't want to only write about love like most female artists do. I want to expand on interesting topics." She says. All of her songs are highly personal. "Every song has a story". She says. "It might be dramatic but it still has a real story behind it." She confirms she is true to her emotions and this is the secret to her songwriting success.
